Teaching Government: God Gives Authority to Four

While homeschooling high school, Meredith and I teach our children government. This is an important class. All students must study it before graduating. We find it so important that we don’t wait until high school to begin teaching about government. My 17 year old son has actively worked on two presidential campaigns and taken the equivalent of three government classes. We also sprinkle more than just a few government lessons in our American History classes each time we cover the subject.

You Can Homeschool All Ages Together!

One of the beautiful things about homeschooling is that we can teach all of our children together. That’s called age integration. The World segregates kids into different ages to make them peer dependent, but we can allow the different ages to blend beautifully. While it is true that math needs to be taught sequentially, most other subjects are not grade specific. If you have a large family, it’s helpful for you to combine as many classes across the grades as possible. Let’s look at some examples.

Teaching Math

I want to caution you all to not fall into it, if it is not too late. Parents are avoiding math. Moms and dads, we are homeschooling our children. We are not buying books for them to homeschool themselves but that is exactly what many parents are trying to do with math.

The Myth of Evolution

Evolution is a scientific hypothesis which states that through a series of tiny changes life has come from non-living chemicals. After a continuation of gradual minute changes increasingly complex and diverse life forms have been born. The culmination of all these modifications has produced the current collection of living organisms.

Total Access to Worship

We serve a wonderful God! We are so blessed to be able to do this. He is Great! The Psalmist can sometimes overwhelm us with his expressions of admiration and appreciation of our Lord. The Lord can definitely overwhelm us with His love and greatness. Do you ever feel like you couldn’t possibly worship the Lord in a way that is worthy? “Nothing I could say or write could ever compare to what King David did.” “I’m not wise like King Solomon. How could I ever give anything to the Lord that would be good enough?”

The Occult & Halloween

The Teaching Home

This week we are reprinting a great article by Cindy Short and Sue Welch, from The Teaching Home’s wonderful online newsletter.

Greetings,

As our culture is bombarded with the celebration of Halloween, we have an appropriate and compelling opportunity to teach our children what God says about the occult and its dangers.
